Laidre, Tonn – WILTON. Tonn Laidre of Wilton went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Tonn was an immigrant from Northern Europe and spent several years with his mother in a Displaced Persons Camps before immigrating to the USA in 1955. He attended the Hempstead public schools in Long Island, NY. He then went to Adelphi University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. From there he went to the University of Bridgeport, CT on a graduate assistantship and completed his Master’s degree in Psychology. Tonn worked for the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities – Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities from 1972 to 2007 on a full-time basis. He then worked several more years part-time for the same agency, and also part-time for Comprehensive Neuropsychological Services in Albany with traumatic brain injury patients. Most of his life was spent helping and treating people with disabilities.

Tonn is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Phyllis. Tonn is also survived by his daughter Dr. Kristin Laidre in Seattle, WA and his son Dr. Mark Laidre, in Hanover, NH. He was extremely proud of the educational achievements of his two children. In addition, Tonn is survived by relatives in Sweden and Estonia and by his cousin Aet Singer and her husband and children in New York City. Due to his wishes, there will be no memorial service and burial will be private in the family plot.
