Victor Santiago, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Scotia on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
He was born on May 29, 1943, in Puerto Rico, the son of the late Leoncio Santiago and Raimunda Altu Morales, in addition to his late stepfather, Ramon Altu who raised him as his own son.
Victor was known for his joyful spirit and love of music. He had a passion for singing and could often be found dancing wherever a good tune was playing. He also enjoyed pretending to be a radio disc jockey, bringing fun and laughter to those around him. Above all, Victor’s greatest joy in life was his family, whom he loved deeply.
Victor was rarely seen without his signature fedora, a hat he wore proudly and with flair.
He is survived by his brothers, Benjamin Altu and Jose Altu; his sisters, Aida Gordon (Paul), Abigail Altu, Vivian Altu, Nora Altu, and Frances Ledesma (Michael); as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Luis Santiago, Raymond Altu, Angel Altu, and Daniel Altu.
As Victor would say, “Don’t worry, be happy,” until we meet again.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
A graveside service will be held on 11:30 am on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Restland Cemetery, 77 Deforest Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
