Urszula Janicki

Urszula Janicki, age 67, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 29, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on May 27, 1959, in Saratoga Springs, New York, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Regina Janicki. Urszula was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School and went on to work for many years as a clerk with the United States Postal Service at the Gansevoort Post Office.

Urszula was a generous and giving person whose greatest passion was her beloved dogs. Vizslas held a very special place in her heart, and she devoted countless hours to training, showing, competing, and simply enjoying life with them. Over the years, Urszula and her dogs participated in numerous venues, including Obedience, Agility, Conformation, Barn Hunt, and Scent Work.

Her dedication and skill led to an impressive list of accomplishments. Her dogs earned Breed Championships, Obedience titles, numerous advanced Agility titles across multiple venues, and, most recently, Scent Work titles. The number of achievements was simply too great to count, but for Urszula, the true reward was always the bond she shared with her dogs and the friendships she formed along the way.

Urszula was also deeply involved in the dog community and generously shared her knowledge, experience, and time with others. She served on the Boards of Directors of several clubs and was Trial Chairman for numerous Agility trials. She was an active member of the Saratoga Kennel Club, Schenectady Dog Training Club, JAZZ Agility, and the Vizsla Club of America. Through these organizations, Urszula became a trusted friend and mentor to many, always willing to encourage others and share what she had learned.

When she found a little downtime from her many activities, Urszula enjoyed cooking and expressing her creativity through crafting. She was incredibly artistic and had a talent for creating beautiful things with her hands.

Urszula was truly one of a kind, unique and independent spirit who marched to the beat of her own drum. She lived life on her own terms, gave generously of herself, and left a lasting impression on the many people fortunate enough to know her. She was a wonderful friend, a devoted mentor, and someone whose presence will be deeply missed.

Perhaps one of the best ways to remember Urszula is through the answer she so often gave to many questions:

“Not yet!”

Urszula is survived by her cousin, Wendy Zwijacz (Jean); sister, Barbara Ahlman; niece, Krys Laychak (Paul); nephew, Jeremy (Ryanne); several grandnieces and grandnephews; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Regina Janicki.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 150 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Urszula’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society’s Bark For Life or to Estherville Animal Shelter, 100 Russell Road, Greenfield Center, NY 12833.
