Theresa Twomey, 89, peacefully passed away on December 11, 2025, in the comfort of her home in Wilton, N.Y. surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on June 3, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA, Theresa was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Smith) Turbitt. At a young age she moved to Brooklyn, NY where she spent most of her life and raised a family, until relocating to Wilton, NY in 2003.
On October 11, 1958, Theresa married the love of her life, Richard Twomey. Together they raised seven children: Richard, Theresa, Mary, Joseph, Katie, Ann and Christopher. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose warmth and laughter filled every room she entered. She was especially known for cooking big meals for everyone and her famous Grandma rolls and candied sweet potatoes, baking them for every family gathering.
Theresa lived an active and joyful life. In Brooklyn, N.Y. Theresa was an active member of Good Shepherd Parish and the community, always volunteering and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. When she moved to Wilton, N.Y., along with her husband Richard of 62 years, and her son Joseph, who cared for them, Theresa was an avid fan of Saratoga Race Course, and spent many summer days in attendance and making many new friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Richard Twomey, who passed in 2020, and her brothers Clifford Turbitt and Sydney Barton.
Theresa is survived by her loving family, who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts: Children and families: Richard (Kim) Twomey; Theresa Twomey; Mary Twomey; Joseph Twomey; Katie (Dan) Smith; Ann (Dan) Maloney and Christopher (Megan) Twomey. She was a grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to many nieces and nephews, and will be remembered by all for her love and generosity.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Immediately after, a graveside service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, N. Y.
Theresa will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
