Terry Ely Couch, age 82, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on July 10, 1941 to William Leslie Couch and Christine Merel Ely Couch in Odessa, New York.
Terry graduated from Odessa/Montour Central High School in 1959 and went on to Willard State Hospital School of Nursing to pursue an education in the field of nursing. Upon graduation in 1962 he furthered his education at Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey, graduating with a degree in Anesthesiology and began his practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Not long after, Terry was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 as a Commissioned Officer, taking his skills overseas in Vietnam, deployed to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) attending to our wounded soldiers.
Returning to civilian life, his career continued within many local hospitals to include Saratoga Hospital, St, Peter’s Hospital, and many more throughout the Northeast. Terry loved his family, his life’s work, his many pets, numerous outdoor activities, singing Barbershop harmony style music with several choral groups and quartets, as well as with his church choir.
Terry is survived by sons, Matthew David Couch, Daniel Patrick Couch (Christina Renee Judkins Couch); daughters, Karen Lynn Couch Beavers (Steven James Beavers), Jennifer Lee Couch Casper (John Joseph VanBuren); grandchildren, Nathan Daniel Couch (Bethany Anne Delige Couch), Joyel Renee Couch, Aaron Michael Couch, Luke Timothy Copper (Kristen Renee Riveras Cooper), Daniel Allen Cooper, Mark Andrew Cooper, Rachel Lynn Cooper Sutton (Brandon Michael Sutton), Rebekah Grace Cooper, Hannah Christine Cooper, Kari Lynn Dickson, Nancy Lee Zuvieta Bobier, Randy Lee Casper; great-grandchildren, Susanna Marie, Malachi Zebulon Justus, Jonathan Salem, Lydia Elizabeth, Alexis Daniels (adopted), Mackenzie Renee Cooper, Liam-Robert Aedyn Cooper, Calliope Lynn Cooper, Katana Sky Bond, Malakai Owen Bond, Persayus JoyRose Cooper-Irvin, Ember Barbieri, Caleb Barbieri, Rhydian Workman, Aurora Workman, Samuel Quinn Bobier, Norah Mae Bobier; brothers, William Ernest Couch, Michael Orlando Couch who passed away on August 11, 2023; and many friends who will miss his dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas Leslie Couch, James Phillip Couch.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. John Pezzulo and the staff at Saratoga Palliative Care, to Dr. Vivenzio and the staff at Saratoga Hospital, the Emergency Department and C3 for their excellent care, and to everyone at Community Hospice of Saratoga for their care and compassion during Terry's final sojourn to his eternal resting place.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. If you would like to proceed to the cemetery, please arrive at the funeral home no later than 11:00 a.m.
