Susan Klinkow Obituary

Susan Frances Klinkow age 77, of Gansevoort, NY, died peacefully on November 7th at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. She had been previously diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia, a form of Alzheimer’s.

Born on July 14, 1948, in Malone NY, Susan is predeceased by her mother Frances, Lacole Quebec; Father Paul, Huntington Quebec; aunt Ester Dansky, Queensbury NY; uncle Arnold Dansky, Queensbury NY and brother Michael, Malone NY.

In her formative years, Susan spent her first years in Lacole Canada. After her mother died in an automobile accident, when Sue was 9 years old, she was supported by a loving family and lived in several locations throughout the northeast.

In here adventurous twenties, after becoming a nurse, she lived several months in Santiago, Chile, where she became conversant in Spanish. Soon after returning to the states, she headed north to Canada, where she worked as an Intensive Care nurse in Montreal, at Montreal General Hospital and became conversant in French. She then moved to Boston, finished her degree in Nursing at Northeastern University and worked in Intensive Care at Mass General Hospital and later at the Lahey Clinic. She focused free time on skiing and running and traveling.

In her homemaking 30’s, she settled down, married, raised two young 2 sons and lived in southern NH.  She loved going to the beach, which resulted in many family summer vacations at Cape Cod’s National Sea Shore. In addition, Sue and her family made several trips to the beaches of the Algarve in Southern Portugal. She volunteered in School nursing and supported her sons in various sports activities, while still working part time at the Lahey Clinic.

In her fabulous 40’s, she was an active school nurse and worked as a public health nurse while she enjoyed watching her 2 sons become very successful competitive swimmers. She once again became a runner and more often than not metaled in her age group in races up to a half marathon.

In her nifty 50’s and 60’s, she moved with Tom from New Hampshire to Austin Texas and thoroughly enjoyed the “Keep it Weird “city for almost 20 years. Sue worked as a hospice nurse for a few years then volunteered at a local medical clinic; at her church to help adults learn English; and in a supplemental reading program at the local elementary school. Tom and Sue took every opportunity to take advantage of the great music scene in Austin, and she finally got a chance to dance the (morning, afternoon) and night away.

As Sue’s illness progressed, she wanted to return to the northeast to be closer to family, hence the move to Gansevoort, where she took advantage of the fun city of Saratoga as best she could. She especially enjoyed the get togethers with Tom’s (literally) old Fraternity brothers from Union College.

She is survived by husband Thomas Klinkow (Gansevoort, NY) son, Michael (Saratoga, NY), son, Christopher, and wife Donna and son Carlin (Walpole, Ma), Brothers Daniel and wife Katie, (Wake Forrest, NC), David and wife Darlene, (Rusagonis, New Brunswick), Sister-in-Law Debbie Patterson (Malone, NY), cousin Karen and husband Bob Sloan (Honeoye, NY), cousin Carol and husband Nick West (Mt Doral Fl), cousin Heather and husband John Long, (Lexington, SC), cousin Tom and wife Barbara McCarthy, (Tupper Lake, NY).

Her great smile and the twinkle in her eyes will be sorely missed.
