Seymour R. “Bud” Woolsey, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 26, 1946, in Troy, NY, the son of the late Seymour Robert Martin Woolsey and Frances Cecelia Woolsey Griffiths.
Bud graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1964. He then served in the Navy during the Vietnam War followed by service in the National Guard. After his military service he was a union electrician with IBEW Local 236 for over forty years. Bud offered his skills as an electrician to friends and family near and far, often expecting nothing in return. He found happiness and fulfillment in serving others.
Bud was the rock of his family and his primary calling was to take care of his girls. From teaching them to install electrical outlets and fix their own cars to performing on stage alongside them, his wife and daughters were his world.
While the first love of Bud’s life was his family, the second was singing. Every Tuesday night from 1975-2019 Bud could be found singing with the Racing City Chorus. During his time in the chorus, he was also a member of several accomplished barbershop quartets: American Tradition, The Elderly Brothers and most recently the Senior Quartet Champion, Primrose Lane.
Bud leaves a legacy of love, respect, wisdom, sacrifice, patience and faithfulness. He was a protector, mentor, teacher, inventor, artist, and could build or fix anything. His giving spirit was legendary. He will be missed by many loyal and dear friends and family for so many reasons.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Costello Woolsey of Troy, NY; daughters Tamara Woolsey Davis (Johnny), Tiffany Haig (Ryan); grandchildren Maleri Davis, Hudsyn Davis, Elsie Haig and a soon-to-arrive grandson.
Bud is also survived by his sister, Barbara Hofelich (Thomas), sister-in-law Marie Potter, niece Melissa Potter, nephew Kurt Hofelich and family, niece and God-daughter Karen Schlesinger and family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, June 17, 2019, at 11:30 at St. Luke’s on the Hill, 40 McBride Road, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with Father David W. Haig officiating.
Following the service, a graveside ceremony with military honors will be held at 1:30 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “The Well Fund” (Bud’s last wish to help take care of Carol was to install a new well at their home.) Checks can be mailed to “The Well Fund” at the Adirondack Trust Bank, 473 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
