Ronald L. Brunson, age 74, died peacefully at his home, on August 9 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Ronald was born on August 14, 1950, in the Bronx, NY, and was the son of the late Ray & Mary (Formosa) Brunson.
Ron’s family moved to the Albany area while in high school. He would go on to attend and graduate from Albany High School and meet his soulmate, Rosemary. Ron and Rose were married in 1969 and would spend the next six decades raising a family and creating a lifetime of memories together.
Ron served his country from 1969-1975 as a member of the United States Army and National Guard Reserves at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. During this period, Ron and Rose moved to the Schuylerville / Quaker Springs area, where they would work to make a 19th Century home their own and raise their family. The move allowed Ron to pursue his love for the outdoors in his own backyard.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Ron was a legendary hunter, trapper and fisherman. Ron was a longtime member of the Seneca Sportsmen out of Hope Falls NY. He hiked hundreds of miles in the deep woods pursuing the elusive Adirondack Buck. The camp log and stories involving “Bald Eagle”, “Blue Jay”, “Black Bear” and the rest of the animal kingdom are of epic proportions. Birds, rabbits, retrievers and beagles, The Brunson House was blessed with a number of sporting dogs, including “Thor”, “Jake”, “Cooper” and “Woody” - each of which would accompany Ron on his outdoor adventures. His love of Wyoming and Montana led to several trips for mule deer, elk and trout. An accomplished and artistic tyer, his ultimate passion was dry fly fishing trophy browns and rainbows. There is no peace like a river; the Battenkill, West Branch and Upper Delaware were his sanctuaries.
After retiring from Schenectady International Group, Ron and Rose enjoyed traveling during their well-deserved retirements with their good friends Linda and Chip Bowles. In addition, they both looked forward to spending time each summer in Wells, ME with their children and grandchildren. Ron and Rose were also devoted to following their grandchildren to every athletic event, concert, play, recital, and production. If there was a game, “Papa” and “Mema” would be on the sidelines, cheering for their family.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary (Connery) Brunson; his sons Timothy (Kimberly) and Steven (Amanda), and his adored daughters, Krista (Michael) Bodnar and Katie (Joseph) Brunson-Wood; his grandchildren - Calabria (Ryan), Jack, Cameron, Morgen, Sophie, Gracie, and Claire; his sisters, Corrinna Farbstein and Joanne Russell; his brother-in-law Terry (Evlyn) Connery; his sister-in-law Kathy (Connery) Lacy; and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends are warmly invited to join the Brunson family for a Celebration of Ron’s life to be held on Sunday, August 17th from 2-5 pm at the Old Saratoga American Legion (Post 278) located at 6 Clancy Street, Schuylerville, NY 12871. The funeral services will be private.
