Robert (Bob) G. Young of Fairport, NY passed away January 24th at the Fairport Baptist home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. He was born in Rochester, NY on October 18, 1938 and was a graduate of Monroe High School and Rochester Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Coast Guard and worked for 32 years in the Finance Division of Eastman Kodak Company.
Bob is survived by Louise, his wife of 59 years, his daughters Lorraine (David) Lavender of Marietta, Georgia and Tracy (Christopher) Goodridge of Basel, Switzerland, his son Robert (Christine) Young of Fairport, New York, his six grandchildren Grace and Hope Young, Olen and Aaron Lavender, and Jonathan and Marshall Goodridge as well as his sister-in-law, Ann Reffue of Johnstown New York along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Rose Young and brothers James and Raymond Hayes.
Bob and his family lived in Irondequoit, NY for 39 years, and then he and Louise spent 14 years enjoying retirement in Saratoga, NY. He loved traveling throughout the world, studying and reading history, gardening, fishing, and hiking. Bob also enjoyed taking classes at the Academy for Lifelong Learning in Saratoga.
There will be no calling hours. A private ceremony will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory of Robert, may be sent to the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, USS Slater DE, P.O. Box 1926, Albany, NY 12201-1926.
