Robert "Bob" L. Frey, Sr.

Robert “Bob” L. Frey, Sr., age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.

Born on November 29, 1948, in Albany, New York, Robert was the son of the late Lois Hildenbrandt Lynch and Russell Frey. He lived a life marked by service, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for his family and his small community.

Bob was employed as an engineer with General Electric in Schenectady for many years.  He was drafted during the Vietnam era in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. His service came at great personal cost, and a recipient of the Purple Heart, a distinction that reflected his bravery and sacrifice.

Affectionately known by many as “The Mayor,” Bob was a familiar and beloved presence in his mobile home park community. Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and family and greeted everyone he met with a kind smile. He especially enjoyed his knowledge and skill in small engine repair, often helping those in need. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed long motorcycle rides, the thrill of go-cart racing, and his lifelong love of horses, including one especially dear to him named Trouble.  Above all, Bob will be remembered for his humble spirit and kind smile.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Robert L. Frey, Jr. and Christopher Frey. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles “Charlie” Hotaling; sisters Dawn Koval, Lois “Loie” Ernst (James), and Judith “Judy” Jansen (John); brothers-in-law Ralph Thompson and Daniel Gunville; several cousins, nieces and nephews, along with many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sisters, Jo-Anne Thompson and Jennifer Gunville, and his brother David Frey.

Interment with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
