Robert Lawrence Obituary

Robert Lawrence, age 84, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Mary’s Haven with his family by his side.

Robert Lawrence was born on December 23, 1939, to Blanche Irene (Charlebois) Lawrence and Theodore Lawrence, Sr. in North Creek, New York. Due to a severe snowstorm, Robert was delivered by his father, with the doctor arriving by snowshoes the following day.

He attended Indian Lake School and Minerva School before working at Wards Lumber Yard in Newcomb, New York. In April 1960, he volunteered for the US Air Force, serving in Seoul, Korea with the Matador Missile Program and in both SAC and TAC. He was also stationed at several US bases, including Orlando, Florida, Denver, Colorado, and Wichita, Kansas with the Titan II Missile Program.

Robert enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, particularly in Florida, where he often rode to the beach and once to NYC with friends.

On June 12, 1965, Robert married Judy (Whaley) at Calvary Baptist Church in Derby, Kansas. They lived in Derby, Kansas, where he worked at Beach Aircraft in Wichita, proudly building airplanes for Walt Disney and the US government during the Vietnam War.

In 1968, Robert and Judy moved to South Glens Falls, New York, where he worked as a millwright in the maintenance department at NIBCO of New York until his retirement in 1990. He was known for fabricating workstations and assisting co-workers with various projects during his lunch hours.

Robert had a passion for woodworking, creating many cherished gifts for family and friends. He made rocking horses for his children and grandchildren, picture frames, and even a dunking booth for his church's picnic. He also built blue bird house kits for Boy Scout Troops in South Glens Falls.  He was also a dedicated member of the American Legion Post #629 in North Creek, New York.  Robert also supported local Boy Scout Troops.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Lawrence of 59 years; daughters, Cynthia Drew (David) and Joy Baker (Randy); sister, Blanche Perrin; and grandchildren, Brittney Drew, Shelby Drew (Joshua Leasure), Catherine Baker, and Jordan Baker. He leaves behind many dear friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, 2 sisters and his son, Timothy Lawrence.
