Richard W. McFarland

Richard W. McFarland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Greenfield Center, with family by his side, he was 93 years. old.

Born on May 11, 1933, in Albany, New York, Richard was the son of the late Walter McFarland and Henrietta Cross. He grew up with a strong work ethic, quiet determination, and deep appreciation for family values that would guide him throughout his life.

Richard dedicated 35 years of service to Tarrant Manufacturing in the Saratoga Springs area, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his leadership, dependability, and commitment to excellence. Following a successful career, he retired in 1998 and embraced the opportunity to spend more time doing the things he loved most.

A devoted member of the Greenfield Seniors, Richard enjoyed the friendships and fellowship he found within the Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning, exploring new places, or trying his luck at the casino, Richard appreciated life's simple pleasures and made the most of every opportunity.

Family was always at the center of Richard's life. He especially cherished gatherings with loved ones, particularly the many picnics held at his son's home, where laughter, good food, and treasured memories were shared. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his great-grandchildren's concerts, baseball games, and special events, taking immense pride in their accomplishments. His gentle nature, steady presence, and unwavering love created a foundation of strength and support for generations of his family.

Above all else, Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His humility, kindness, and quiet wisdom touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Veronica E. McFarland; his children, Linda Harris (Don) and John McFarland (Diane); his brother, Frank McFarland (Gay Star); his sister, Starlene Haviland (John); five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two step great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors and friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Ivan McFarland, and his sister, Mary St. Clair.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
