Richard Marks Obituary

Richard L. Marks, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 18th, 2024. Born on July 15, 1942, to Harry and Anna, Richard was raised on Long Island where he began his career in law enforcement.

While on patrol one Sunday morning, he met the love of his life, Ann Marie, who   sparked their initial conversation by asking the question, “What is a citizen’s arrest?”.  Little did they know that question would lead to a whirlwind romance that culminated in their marriage six months later in November 1966. Together, they raised three amazing daughters whom he loved dearly and adored. Richard was also a proud, loving grandfather to triplet grandsons.

Richard had a deep passion for fishing, and he cherished the time he spent outdoors. He loved taking his grandsons to the locks in Schuylerville for fishing trips, followed by indulgent chocolate shakes at Stewarts. His annual fly-fishing trips to Maine with his buddies were legendary, filled with laughter, good food, and countless fish tales.

Beyond his hobbies, Richard treasured the time he spent with his wife, their daughters and family. They enjoyed family vacations, shared meals, and countless conversations filled with love and laughter. His love and devotion for his family were evident in everything he did.

Richard retired from US Customs after a fulfilling 36-year career. In retirement, he was a member of The Friends of Wilton, serving as the Treasurer.  He will be remembered for his unlimited knowledge, gentle demeanor, sharp wit, and unwavering kindness. Richard was the definition of a true gentleman. His love and generosity extended to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of almost 58 years, Ann Marie, daughters Christine Marks, Patricia Marks, and Suzanne Pollard, son-in-law Stanley Pollard, his three grandsons Alex, Logan & Cooper Pollard, Shany Schvartz, whom he considered to be his 4th daughter, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Carol Weber, nephew Kent Weber, In-laws Nicholas and Lee Merlino, and his brother-in-law, Anthony Merlino.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s honor to Community Hospice located at 179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
