Raouf A. Ridha passed away on November 16, 2025 surrounded by family at the age of 88.
A scientist and innovator at heart, he received both his MS and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, after which he had a distinguished career in aerospace and tire engineering.
Among his many accomplishments were the development of landing gear for the U.S. military, the NASA space program, and civilian aircraft, as well as innovations in the use of finite element analysis and tire design. Perhaps his most cherished achievement, however, was becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States, a country he truly loved. He was forever curious about the world: at various points in his life, he was a student of Spanish, French, and Russian, and was an avid world traveler, organizing family trips to more than twenty countries across four continents. He loved classical music, golf, the PBS News Hour, and football.
He is survived by his wife Dalal, his son Jeffrey, and his daughters, Jennifer and Susan, all of whom are heartbroken by his loss.
A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
