Nelson D. Varney

Nelson D. Varney, 67, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2025, following a brief illness.

Born on February 13, 1957, in Glens Falls, NY, Nelson was the son of Nelson E. Varney and Shirley Phillips Varney.

A graduate of Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1975, Nelson went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he dedicated 25 years as a Corrections Officer at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility.

Nelson had a passion for the outdoors and found joy in fishing. He was also an avid knife collector, appreciating the craftsmanship and history behind each piece.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Lola Varney; his sons, Brian Varney and Scott Varney; his stepsons, Joseph Tanner (Aubrey) and Joshua Tanner; his sister, Linda Walzer (Edward); his nephew, Ryan Walzer; his grandson, Mazon Varney; and step-grandchildren, Caroline and Liam Tanner.

Per the family’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
