Michael William “Mike” Wagstaff, known to many as “Wags,” of Watervliet, New York, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 6, 2026. He was born on August 8, 1972.
Mike — or “Wags,” as everyone called him — will be remembered as the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. He had a generous spirit, an easy smile, and a way of making everyone around him feel like a friend. If you knew Mike, chances are you have a “Mike” or “Wags” story — and those stories are filled with laughter, kindness, and moments that won’t be forgotten.
Mike spent his life doing what he loved most: cooking for people. A lifelong member of the restaurant community, he worked as a cook at the Notty Pine for 30 years, where he became a familiar face to coworkers, customers, and friends alike. For Mike, food wasn’t just a job — it was his way of bringing people together. Whether he was in a professional kitchen or cooking for family and friends, he truly enjoyed sharing good meals and good company.
He is survived by his loving mother, Roslyn Wagstaff, his brother, Jonathan Wagstaff, and his loving aunts Marilyn and Kathy, and his uncle Johnny. Mike was also a proud and devoted uncle to his three nephews, Devan, Brody, and Luca Wagstaff, and his niece, Gianna Wagstaff, all of whom brought him great joy.
He was predeceased by his father, William Wagstaff.
Mike’s kindness, humor, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered through the countless stories, meals, and memories he shared with those around him.
