Michael A Stoneback of Saratoga, age 73, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on Wednesday, May 21 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Omaha Nebraska, the eldest son of Donald F and Mary Maricle Stoneback. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patty and a brother-in-law, James J Dolan Jr. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doreen Harris, of Saratoga and a sister, Cindy Hester of Oak Grove, Kentucky.
Michael served honorably in the United States Navy as a nuclear technician aboard the submarine USS Brooke. Upon his discharge from the service, he moved to Saratoga where he began his career as a real estate professional with Owl Realty, Picotte Realty and Blake Realtors. Shortly thereafter, he became a mortgage consultant working for M&T Bank and Adirondack Mortgage Service until his retirement in 2018. Michael was proud to give back to his community serving as a past president of the Saratoga Lions. Here he was instrumental with organizing the Gliding Stars program as well as a myriad of fund raisers and other events. Michael also played a pivotal role in establishing the Saratoga Military Museum.
Services are under the direction of Compassionate Care Funeral Home, 402 Maple Ave, Saratoga Springs.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 11, 2025 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
There will be a gathering with further fellowship at 12 noon at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Ln, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 following the graveside service.
