Michael R Shannon – Colonie, NY
Mike Shannon, 69, proud father of two children and Papa to two granddaughters, entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2024 with his family by his side. Mike was born in Albany, NY to Harold C. and Jean (Spenziero) Shannon. Mike was educated at Colonie Central High School and went on to work for Agway Feed Mill in Guilderland Center. Later he attended journeymen’s school for IBEW Local 236 becoming a certified electrician, having the opportunities to work at GE Selkirk, Regeneron, Saratoga Racetrack, and Albany International Airport. He had a very satisfying and successful career.
Mike was a self-taught mechanic and was gifted with the ability to install, repair, or construct anything. He along with his son Michael, studied Hidi Ochai Washin-ryu Karate centered on respect, honor and self-development for a number of years. Mike was an avid NASCAR fan citing Jeff Gordon as the greatest driver of all time. He was a consummate reader, deep thinker and very much ahead of his time. He enjoyed playing billiards, watching Premiere League Soccer and taking his prized Camaro ZL1 for a ride….really fast!
Mike was a devoted and loving father to Michael Shannon II of NYC, and Stephanie (Chris Harbert) Shannon of Carlisle, PA. He was the proud Papa to Brinn Leigh Grace, 4 and Lenna Shay Lynn Harbert 1, also of Carlisle, PA whom he loved dearly.
Mike is predeceased by his parents, his son, Zachary Steven, and his loyal, beloved fur companion, Jasmine.
Mike leaves behind his four dear sisters, Michelle (Joe) Gava, Kathleen (Jim) Lyons, Cynthia and Allison Shannon; his devoted caregivers, former wife Debra Shannon and friend Kenneth Pinkowski. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 150 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
