Mary Eckardt Obituary

Mary Rose Eckardt, 87, of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away at her home on Friday, July 14, 2023 surrounded by her family. Mary was born to Francis Xavier Lee and Agnes Fraine Lee in 1935.  She was the second youngest of nine children.

Mary graduated from Bayley Ellard in Morristown, NJ in 1954.  Upon graduation, Mary worked for NJ Bell in Morristown.   Around that time, she fell in love with Robert Eckardt and they were soon married. They had eight children and were married 68 years. Growing up in Chatham and Morristown, they had a faith-filled life with Sunday dinners and lots of love and laughs.

Mary and Bob together with their 8 children moved from Morristown to Saratoga in 1973.  They purchased a local business. Bob continued his work as a skilled union carpenter and Mary was a homemaker and a successful manager of the family business before selling it.

Mary loved spending time with her family.  Mary had a green thumb which was evident by the many beautiful flowers she grew.  Bowling, bingo nights, spending time at their former home on Lake George were things she enjoyed. But nothing compared to spending time with family - what she cherished the most.   She had a quick wit and big heart.  She was happy to gather with her siblings and her door was always open for family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and most of her siblings, Barbara Glennon (Richard); Agnes Wrede (George); Margaret Keiser (Robert); Patricia (Wallace) Wrede; brother, Robert Lee, Frank (Mary) and Benedict A. Lee and brother -in- law John Keating and Carl Eckardt.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Robert Eckardt and their children; Robert Eckardt (Teresa), Kathy (Kenny) Goodwin, Mary (Jim) DeWaard, Linda (Jim) Perry, Francis X. Eckardt, Patricia (Vince) Riggi, Sandra (Steve) Foley, Eric (Sonja) Eckardt; brother, John Lee (Barbara); sisters-in-law, Brenda Lee, Regina Keating; her 14 grandchildren, Loren, Kenny, Michael, Erika, Emily, J.D., Johnny, Nicole, Robert, Jimmy, Michael, Stephen, Sophia and Eric and 10 great grandchildren.

We’d like to thank all her doctors, Hospice and Saratoga Springs Fire & Rescue for their compassionate care.
