Marie A. Petrie, age 78, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 07, 2022 at her home in Wilton with her family by her side.
She was born on October 2, 1944 in Glens Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Mason Potter and Annette Bigelow Potter.
Marie graduated from Glens Falls High School, class of 1962. She continued her education attending Rhode Island School of Design.
Marie met her partner in life and the love of her life Arthur Petrie at a square dance in “Hogtown” in Warrensburg. Together they bought a house and raised their family in Wilton, where they lived for 56 years.
Marie worked in retail management for 40 years, 30 of those years being at JC Penny. Marie enjoyed painting, reading, golfing, hiking, snowshoeing, walking with Stryders Saratoga (the www bunch), kayaking, waking her children up at midnight to build snow sculptures (if the snow was perfectly packy), tackling projects with friends, and traveling with Arthur, her sister Carole and brother-in-law, Joel.
After she retired, she filled her days with all the things she loved to do, and included a few extras like volunteering at Treasures at Saratoga Hospital helping to merchandise the donations. She treasured her friends and family who kept her busy. She loved them all. Golf was her passion, but it was all the friends and friendships she made along the way that she loved the most, especially the extraordinary women she drew strength from after Art passed away like her sister Carole, her golf league girls of the Paint and Chat group and the Wild Wonderful Women of the Stryders who kept her feet on the ground (and moving) and reminded her that the sky was the limit.
She was so proud of her children and grandchildren who gave her such joy watching them all go for their dreams in life. They learned from her example that it's okay to work hard to attain your dreams. Each one of them was blessed with some of her artistic talents in one form or another and she loved them all.
Marie is survived by her son, Ronald Petrie (Amy Jane) of Phoenixville, Pa.; daughter, Colline Petrie of California; five grandchildren, Kayla Dreyfuss, Alison Dreyfuss, Matthew Dreyfuss, Tessa Cadieux-Petrie, Paige Cadieux-Petrie; two sisters, Carole Cochran (Joel) of Gansevoort and Gwen Eastman of Gansevoort; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Marie Petrie; husband, Arthur R. Petrie and sister, Gale Austin.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at 6 pm at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 with Reverend Loren Gage officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 pm – 6 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
