Maria Brendel Mathes, 93, of Prestwick Chase, died Sunday, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Dresden, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Johanne Facius Brendel. She was the wife of the late Paul W. Mathes.
Maria immigrated to the United States in 1954 and settled in Brooklyn with her husband Paul and young daughter, Christine. She was very proud of becoming a US citizen in 1958.
After living in Brooklyn for many years, Maria resided in Willingboro, NJ, then Ballston Lake, NY. There she was an avid gardener, enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her grandchildren and was very active in her Church. For the past 17 years she called the Prestwick Chase senior community in Saratoga Springs her home. She loved living at Prestwick, considered it her home, and the residents and staff her family.
Maria is survived by her daughter Christine Mathes Lange (Robert) of Gansevoort and two grandchildren Julia Lange Gray (Simon) of Auckland, New Zealand and Eric Lange (Jennifer) of Rotterdam, NY.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in the Jonesville Cemetery, Ballston Lake.
There will be no calling hours.
