On the evening of Thursday, September 17, 2026, Leroy Lester Ramsey, affectionately known as “Duke,” peacefully departed this world surrounded by the family who loved him dearly.
Born on November 30, 1970, in Saratoga Springs, New York, Leroy was the youngest of seven children. From an early age, he was spunky, vivacious, and full of life, always keeping everyone around him on their toes.
Leroy graduated from Schuylerville Central High School in 1988, where he was a proud member of the wrestling team. After high school, his passion for boxing led him to Saratoga Boxing, where, under the guidance of the late Jack Nichols, he became a Golden Gloves Champion in 1989.
His love of learning continued throughout his life. In 2000, Leroy graduated from Schenectady Community College, where he studied culinary arts. He loved good food just as much as he loved wrestling, boxing, and his beloved 1985 Ford Mustang GT.
Leroy was also a hardworking and talented businessman. He founded Ramsey Painting, a successful painting company that became a source of great pride for him. He took tremendous pride in his work and, above all, in having satisfied customers. For many years, Leroy helped restore and preserve numerous Victorian homes and businesses throughout downtown Saratoga Springs, leaving his mark on the community he loved.
One of Leroy’s favorite places to visit was Virginia Beach, a place where he enjoyed making memories and simply being surrounded by the things he loved.
Although Leroy never had children of his own, he had a family that meant everything to him. His nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews were among the greatest joys of his life. He loved them deeply and never hesitated to give them anything he could. Leroy had a natural passion for taking care of others and making sure the people he loved were taken care of.
Leroy was kind, warmhearted, generous, and full of love. He had a way of making people feel cared for, and his huge heart touched the lives of so many. He was, simply, a good man who loved his family, loved people, and gave so much of himself to those around him.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Lester Leroy Ramsey; his mother, Ann Laura (Cooper) Ramsey; and his brothers, Ricky and Larry.
He is survived by his sisters, Laura Ann (Ramsey) Boyce and her husband, Ronald Boyce; and Sherri (Ramsey) Burdick and her husband, Daryl Burdick; his brothers, Randall Eugene Ramsey and his wife, Kimberly Ramsey; and Lester Leroy Ramsey Jr.; as well as his many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Though his passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness, Leroy’s memory will live on through the family he loved, the people he helped, the work he was proud of, and the countless memories he created throughout his life.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family by invitation only. The date and location will be announced at a later time.
