Laurence R. Canell, Sr.

Laurence R. Canell Sr (Larry), 84 years old, passed away on 7/28/26 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born on April 3, 1942 in Schenectady, NY the son of Raymond A & Dorothy B Canell.

Larry graduated in 1960 from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady NY, then entered the US Navy from 1960-1964.

Larry worked as a machinist at GE for over 30 years, until retirement in 1998.

Larry was an accomplished wood worker and loved sailing on his boat with his family.  He was an avid reader of history and had an extensive Winston Churchill book collection.

Larry is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Suzanne Canell, his daughter Melissa Canell DuBois, Son in law Scott DuBois, Daughter in law Paula Everson Canell, his beloved Grandchildren Kelly, Keith & Cole, his brothers Tim Canell, Jeffrey Canell, and nieces Megan Canell, Anna Canell Thomas. 

He is preceded in death by his loving son Laurence Canell Jr, his parents Raymond & Dorothy Canell and in laws John and Emily Craig. 

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
