Ken Abrams, 94, died at Saratoga Hospital on August 25th. He was surrounded by his wife Madeline and children Pamela, Ursula, and Joshua.
Ken was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, and in recent years split his time between Saratoga and Florida. In 1971, he joined the founding team of Empire State College in Saratoga, where he remained for the rest of his career, retiring in 2006 as Dean for International Programs. He loved his work with students and colleagues, from his early days as an English Professor at Queens College and SUNY Stony Brook, to his later years setting up partner programs all over the world for Empire State. His lifelong love of Saratoga began as a young boy when he came to the racetrack with his father, and his passion for horse racing never waned. It was equally matched by his deep love for family and friends, a unique fondness for dogs, and an intellect’s interest in the world.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Madeline, children Pam (Paul), Ursula (Michael), and Joshua (Debra), and grandchildren Mickey, Jamie, Miles, Lucy and Marta.
His family thanks the Community Hospice and Saratoga Hospital for extraordinary care and compassion in his last weeks of life.
