Katherine Powers Obituary

Katherine Aiken Powers, Born on December 27, 1942, in Delhi, NY, was the daughter of the late Albert Whittaker and Margaret Aiken. Kathy was cradled in the loving hands of God at the age of 83 after embracing one final winter in the golden Florida sunshine. She peacefully passed on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family.

Throughout Kathy’s journey, she cherished the joy of good company, the embrace of family, and the treasured bonds of friendship, carrying a heart rich with kindness and devotion. She shared 50 beautiful years of marriage with her late husband, Thomas Powers. In later years, she found companionship and joy with William O’Reilly, whose friendship, love, humor, and unwavering presence brought happiness and comfort to her days.

Kathy dedicated many years of service as a healthcare provider at the Wilton Developmental Center, where she compassionately cared for others and made a lasting difference in the lives of many. Her kindness, patience, and gentle nature were qualities that defined both her professional and personal life.

Another important aspect of Kathy’s life was her love of God.  She was a member of the Porter Corners United Methodist Church for many years of her life.  She was always willing to help out at the church in any way needed and worshiped there on a weekly basis.

Two of Kathy’s greatest delights were the sunlit weekends at Sacandaga Lake and the warm winters spent in Florida with the other residents of the Lake Conley Resort. Weekends on the lake unfolded with warm boat rides, easy conversations on the deck, stories around the campfire, weekend card games, joyous laughter, and above all, the blessing of good company. Her Florida days echoed with these joys, accompanied by competitive games of bingo, daily bike rides, refreshing hours by the pool, and the easy comfort of good friends and familiar routines.

More than anything, Kathy loved being together with family and friends. She had a way of making people feel welcome, cared for and part of something special. Her home, whether at the lake, in Florida, or gathered around the game table, was always a gathering place filled with conversation, joy, warmth, and love.

Kathy is survived by her loving companion, William “Bill” O’Reilly; her sons, Ernest Powers and Albert Powers (Stephany); her brothers, Douglas Whittaker, Kenneth Whittaker, Joseph Whittaker, and Richard Powers; and her beloved grandchildren, Lucas Powers, Casey Powers, Lilliana Powers, Abigail Powers, and Annabelle Powers. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, Katherine was predeceased by her husband Thomas Powers, and her son, Richard Powers.

Kathy’s life will be honored with a celebration at the Principessa Elena Societey, 13 Oak Street, Saratoga Springs on June 17th at 5:00 pm
