Joyce L. Sumner

Joyce L. Sumner, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1937 in Fort Ann, NY. She was the daughter of the late George and Blanche Burch.

Joyce worked at General Electric in Fort Edward for 37 years. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary for 40 years. She enjoyed horses, riding motorcycles and sitting down to write a few poems. Her favorite time is being with her family and friends. Her heart was warm and open to help others in need. She was an adopted mom, and aunt to many people. Her faith in the lord was unwavering. Her deep commitment to her Church community made her a beacon of light to all that knew her.

She is survived by her daughters; Kelly Strainer (Stan), and Doreen Constantineau (Jeff); Brothers, Duane Burch (Barb), Robert Burch (Kathy) and sister, Sandra Lufkin; grandchildren; Adam Wells (Keeley), Samuel Strainer and Carson Strainer; great grandchildren; Ava, Scarlett, River, Chevelle, Killian and Journie. Many nieces and nephews. Joyce also leaves many special friends who will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Shirley Burch and Dorthy Hunt, brother, William Burch, and her dog Prince.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the Union Cemetery, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
