Joseph Browne Obituary

Joseph A. Browne, age 84, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Glens Falls Hospital with his daughter by his side.

Joe was born on June 30, 1937 in Gloversville, NY, the son of the late Matthew J. Browne and Helen Reynolds Browne.

In college Joe majored in Economics, first at St. Bonaventure and then at Siena, however due to a philosophical difference of opinion of Theology with the Franciscan Friars and a stubborn streak he would have his entire life, his studies were cut short.

Joe spent his early career in pharmaceutical sales, transitioning to automobile sales in his middling years and finally retiring as a driver for Four Winds with stints tending bar liberally sprinkled through his lifetime.

A true “people person” blessed with the Irish gift gab, Joe “would always take a drink with a friend and didn’t have an enemy in the world”. His circle was broad and included a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. His friends were treated to his wit and wisdom, often whether they wanted it or not, and his blue eyes would twinkle as he spun some preposterous fabrication that he somehow made completely believable.

Armed with his ever-present pocket Declaration of Independence and Constitution, he was at the ready to hold an impromptu political debate and only occasionally did they end in a draw.

Joe was a lifelong voracious reader with a passion for history, classic literature and Sherlock Holmes and was always reading at least three books simultaneously. For many years he enjoyed golf outings with his buddies and come August he could be found studying the Pink Sheet and playing the horses at the Saratoga Racetrack.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Lynn Browne (Ray Kazyaka), nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews, along with many friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brothers Matthew Browne II, William Browne and James Fountain.
