John (Jack) O'Brien Obituary

John (Jack) O’Brien, aged 94, peacefully passed away on December 6, 2023, in the comfort of his Wilton home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 23, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late John O’Brien and Julia Conway O’Brien.

Jack dedicated 28 years of his life to New York Telephone/Verizon, culminating in his role as the Northeast Area Director of Communication Workers of America. Beyond his professional achievements, Jack was a man of many passions. He reveled in boating, gardening, and was a proud Master Gardener. He had a knack for tackling handyman projects, generously serving his community for decades. Jack was an active member and officer of the local VFW, proudly carrying the distinction of a Korean War Veteran. However, his deepest affection was reserved for his family, and he cherished spending time with them. He eagerly attended countless sporting events of his grandchildren, earning the affectionate nickname "Papa Jack" on the rink, field, and mats.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Janice Marie O’Brien, and leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: John W. O’Brien (Kathleen), Kevin T. O’Brien (Phyllis), Andrew P. O’Brien (Laurie), Maura Gallo, Karen Eastman (Edward), and Lisbeth Caples (Edward). He also leaves behind a rich tapestry of fourteen grandchildren, Kaylyn, Jessica, Lindsay, Joseph, Kaitlin, Karley, Kassie, E.J., Phillip, Geoff, Maura, Andrew John, Devin, Michaela; eleven great-grandchildren, Ava, Olivia, Jack, Marc, Kylie, Nicholas, Edward Robert, Isaiah, Emma, Logan, Tristan; each a testament to the love and warmth he brought into their lives. Many nieces, nephews, and dear friends will also hold cherished memories of Jack close to their hearts.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marguerite Westervelt and Regina Lucas, brother Edward O’Brien, and son-in-law Joe Gallo. He represents the last of a remarkable generation, gifting his remaining family with a lifetime of love and memories.
