John Shippey, age 61, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Saratoga Hospital. He was taken by covid, a disease that showed no mercy.
He was born on September 19, 1959 in Saratoga Springs, NY, the son of the late James Shippey and Ruth Merrills.
John was the proud owner/operator of Shippey Construction in Middle Grove for many years. He was the guy who always knew somebody wherever he went. John always wanted to be the best and put his heart into every job he took on. In spite of the fact that he was highly disorganized and over committed, John was truly a creative genius. We often joked he was the hardest working guy in Saratoga. He was full of life, always smiling, he loved his business and his customers. He worked hard; he gave more than a hundred percent in all that he did. He had a special gift for construction, he was talented, loyal and most of all generous to no end.
John joined the Navy right after graduating from Saratoga High School. He attended Annapolis and has always taken great pride in his service to his country (Go Navy!).
John had his share of internal struggles. He absolutely loved his sons Joshua and Jeremy. Unfortunately, his life was cut short before he was able to find his way back to them. John cherished his grandchildren Alanna and Mikey, as well as their mother Stephanie who was like a daughter to him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Patty Taylor; stepmother Diane Shippey; sons, Joshua Shippey, Jeremy Shippey, Linette Belsito and their son Wyatt; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Shippey; grandchildren, Alanna Shippey and Mikey Shippey. Additionally, John had an extended family of in-laws: Bob Taylor, Bill and Jan Taylor, Joanne Taylor and Fraser Strain and Aimee Taylor. John loved children and beside his grandchildren, had six step nieces and nephews, four great nieces and nephews all of whom he adored, along with the one on the way. John had many friends in Saratoga who will miss him beyond words.
A funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY. Family and friends may call from 2 pm to 4 pm prior to the service.
