John W. Harrington, Sr

John W. Harrington, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2021 at Wesley Health Care Center due to COVID-19, he was 88 years old. 

John was born on December 15, 1932 in Saratoga Springs, New York, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Harrington.  John Attended school in Saratoga Springs and Northville, New York.

John was a 25-year veteran who proudly served as a Sergeant in both the United States Marine Corp and the US Army National Guard. 

He married Margaret G. Moore “Peg” in Dunellen, New Jersey on August 10, 1952.  John worked as a police officer in Plainfield, New Jersey for many years.  He then relocated back to Saratoga Springs in October 1972.  He was employed by New York State as a Security Guard at the Wilton Developmental Center.  He retired after 21 years on March 30, 1995.  After retirement, he was employed by Saratoga County Veterans Agency as a County Van Driver.  He also enjoyed tending bar at the VFW Post #420 in Saratoga Springs.

John was a devoted family man.  He absolutely adored his grandchildren.  His family loved him very much and knew they could always count on him.  He was very outgoing and likeable.  He made many close friends over the years. 

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Mayo (Matthew); granddaughter, Brittany Reale, grandson, Brian Reale; sister, Joan Allen; brother, Robert Harrington and many friends who will miss him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; son, John Jr., “Jack” (Shilo); sister, Ella Crandal (Harold), brothers, Alson Harrington (Mae), Lawrence Harrington (Ruth), Thomas Harrington (Gladys) and Kennith Harrington (Sandy).

A private service will be held later in the spring at the family’s burial plot in New Jersey.
