Joan E. Hoenig, 79, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in the care of the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y. Born on April 12, 1946, Joan was the daughter of Ralph Gundrum and Florence “Betty” Gundrum.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Joseph “Jay” Hoenig, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories before his passing in 2014. Together, they built a foundation of love that continues to guide their family.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Maria Mitchell (Michael) and Laura Hoenig (Jason Chavez), along with her cherished granddaughters, Londyn and Karissa Mitchell. She also leaves behind a large circle of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Before Joan retired in May 2007, she worked for the Watervliet Arsenal as a secretary, received an Associate Degree from Adirondack Community College, and worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service. Joan enjoyed reading, watching game shows, and spending time on her porch in her rocking chair, greeting neighbors and friends. Above all, she lived for her family, never missing a chance to cheer on her granddaughters at their sporting events or share a quiet conversation on her porch.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Jay" Hoenig III, and her sister, Carol Bradt.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, April 7, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Compassionate Care Funeral Home located at 402 Maple Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
