James W. Parker peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 13, 1946, in Albany, NY, James was the beloved son of the late Bernard Parker and Ida Mae (Losee) Parker.
James grew up on the family farm and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967 as a member of the U.S. Army. After his military service, he worked on the railroad and was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge and the VFW. James cherished traveling with his family and spending time in Florida, but his favorite place was his camp in Coldbrook.
James is predeceased by his parents, his siblings Dorothy Bates and Paul Parker, brother-in-law Glenn Stahl, son-in-law George Palmateer, Jr. and nephew Harold Johnson.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 22 years, Janet Palmer Parker; his children, James (Shirley) Parker and Kellie (Rodney) Parker; and his stepchildren, Darlene Palmateer, Adam (Danielle) Dingmon, and Tracy (Adam) Dingmon. James is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth (Lorraine) Parker, Kathryn Stahl, Leon (Anna) Parker, and Karl (Debbie) Parker, sister-in-law Beth Parker, as well as his grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Compassionate Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY. Family and friends are welcome to call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon before the service at the funeral home.
A graveside service with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the oncology team at 3 Care Lane, palliative care, and hospice for their compassionate support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A small gathering will be held after the services at Coldbrook Campground, 385 Gurn Springs Rd, Gansevoort, NY 12831, in the pavilion.
