James Miller Obituary

James Miller (Jimmy) age 77 passed away peacefully, in his sleep, during the early hours of December 30. His infamous passion for hunting and fishing left him regarded as a legend among the outdoorsman community. During his later years, Alzheimer’s had diminished his world; he was no longer able to cast out a line or reel in a fish, to load his rifle or pull the trigger. His enjoyment from life had faded considerably.  However, despite Alzheimer's severely limiting his ability to communicate and move freely, Jimmy's love for children endured. Even through his final days, he eagerly anticipated Sunday Dinner each week with the adult children and grandchildren of his dear friends, Gary and Mickey Talbot - a tradition he fondly carried on for decades prior.

Jim proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant with the US Army Heavy Equipment Support Division, building landing strips in Viet Nam for a full year from December 5, 1967 to December 5,1968. At home, he continued his service to the community as a dedicated member of the City of Saratoga Springs Fire Department, where he fervently served as a firefighter for 26 years bearing Helmet #41 alongside his IAFF Local 343 brothers. Later in his career he added EMT and Arson Investigator to his Job description.

Through the years he was an avid member of The Seven Point Hunting Club and Good Fellows Hunting Club. He caught countless large Salmon fishing Lake Ontario with his many friends from Greene Point Marina on Sandy Pond. Jimmy taught many youngsters and adults alike how to bait their first line, sight their first rifle, embark on their first hunt, and tell their first “big fish story” around the fire - his skills that will continue to live on.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Reverend Carole Miller. He leaves behind his twin brother Jack (Joy) and sister Isabelle Kloss, sisters-in-Law June Dorey, Gerry Dorey Carpenter (Fred) and Bobbi Miller, as well as nieces: Cindy Urban, Tammy Dorey, Lynn Ebert (Tom), Jacki Miller, Michelle Salisbury (Scott), Stacey Acuna (Richard), Jami Salyers (Mark), and Jodi Miller, plus nephews: Scott Dorey (Patti), Phillip Dorey (Cindy), Jim Dorey (Pat), Jason Miller (Carol), and Jeff Miller. As well as the entire Talbot family: Gary, Mickey, Kristen Peck (Neil), his Godson Jason, Ryan, Matt (Kelly) and Andrew (Paloma). As well as the numerous great nieces and nephews who were also the delight of his life.

His kind-hearted companionship will be dearly missed by numerous friends far and wide.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Isabelle Miller, his brother Edward Miller, brothers-in-law, Phil and Bill Dorey and his nephew Bill Dorey.
