Ilene (Patty) Sprague Griffen Obituary

Ilene (Patty) Sprague Griffen 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Saratoga hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Patty was born December 4, 1945 in Stillwater, New York to Lawrence and Mary Hoag Sprague.

Patty worked at NYS OMRDD Wilton DDSO for many years. Patty had a passion for cooking, always delighting her family with their favorite dishes. She found great joy in gardening, nurturing her plants with care. Patty was deeply devoted to her family, a loving mother to her three children. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her as their best friend and lovingly called her Gramma, Gram, and Ganny.

She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Barber (Bill); sons, Todd Griffen (Connie), Joseph Griffen; four grandchildren, Lauren Griffen, Tyler Barber (Jess), Marikate Smith (Billy), Chelsea Griffen, Jolean Griffen; three great-grandchildren, Sadie, Everleigh and McKenna; brothers, Lawrence Sprague, William Sprague (Sandy), Robert Sprague (Ruth); brothers-In-Law, Carl Griffen, Dennis Griffen (Linda), Ed Griffen (Helen), Sisters-In-Law, Midge Ferrara (Tom), Mary Canavan, Martha Griffen.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 26 years, Joseph Griffen, her mother, Mary Hoag Sprague, father, Lawrence Sprague, sister, Florence Moll (Bill), mother-in-law, Amelia Griffen; father-in-law, William Griffen; nephew, John Griffen; sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Sprague, Edie Griffen, Rose Schellanger, Holly Schermehorn, Bella Griffen, Infant Florence Griffen; brothers-in-law, Gene Griffen, Bill Griffen, and Chancy Griffen.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Saratoga Hospital staff for the exceptional care provided to our mom during her time there.

In accordance with Patty’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be private, as requested by the family.
