Obituary

Trudy Van Ryn passed away peacefully at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, NY on April 7, 2022. She was born Geertruida Hendrika Kleinveld in Amersfoort, Netherlands on April 5, 1929. She emigrated with her parents and ten siblings to Canada in 1949. Upon her marriage to Simon Van Ryn in 1951, she immigrated to the U.S. and the couple settled in Delmar, NY. She became a proud U.S. citizen on June 18, 1957.

Trudy worked as a nurse in several hospitals in and near Albany, NY while raising five children. She loved her nursing career. She started out as an LPN and, after decades of service, proudly earned her Associate's Degree and RN certification. Trudy had a generous community spirit and was an active volunteer. She was a cub scout and girl scout leader, St. Thomas parish volunteer, Delmar Fire Department auxiliary member, regular Red Cross blood donor, and raised money for several charities.

Trudy enjoyed being outdoors, she camped with her family and scout troops and was active in the Capital Area Ski Touring Association, local chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Crooked Canes and Seniors on Bikes. She also loved a parade, and for several years was a member of the Adamsville Ancients Fife and Drum Corps. After her husband Simon passed away in 2003, Trudy moved to Queensbury, NY and was an active member of the Glen Lake community.

She is survived by three sons, Leonard Van Ryn (Rita) of Cohoes, NY, Jacques “Jack” Van Ryn (Debbie) of St. Louis, MO, and Paul Van Ryn (Lisa) of Albany, NY and two daughters, Debbie Van Ryn of Brooklyn, NY and Tammara Van Ryn (Chris) of Saranac Lake, NY; eight grandchildren, Trina Van Ryn, Zannah Van Ryn, Irene Van Ryn, Noah Van Ryn, Matthew Goland-Van Ryn, Becca Kahn, Rachel Linder, and Ben Linder; and four great grandchildren, Orli Kahn, Samual Kahn, Schuyler Van Ryn, and Miriam Andrew; and three sisters, Jean Jongkind, Christina Peters, and Audrey Lamrock. She was predeceased by her husband Simon Van Ryn; two grandchildren, Leonard Van Ryn and Maria “Ria” Van Ryn; and four brothers and four sisters.

A funeral service and stories will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 .  

Friends and family may call from 1:30 until 3:00pm on at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave, Saratoga Springs, New York.

A picnic will be held following the service at the Saratoga Springs State Park.
