Frances "Fran" Leary, 88 peacefully reunited with her beloved husband, Thomas "Tom" Leary, and her cherished sister and best friend, Delores "Dolly" McNaught, on April 1, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She passed away at home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 30, 1937, in Haines Falls, NY, to the late Robert and Gizella Terns, Fran later moved to Albany, NY, where she met the love of her life, Tom. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and the joy of raising a family.
Fran was the heart and soul of her home, finding her greatest fulfillment as a devoted wife, mother, and community member. She is survived by her six children: Margaret Burns (Lee), Lisa Leary (Dwayne), Timothy Leary (Brenda), Francine Leary, Tracy Leary (Tarek), and Colleen Wilcox (Steve). She was also known affectionately as "Momma Leary," as her love extended far beyond her own children, as she welcomed countless others into her home with open arms.
Her legacy lives on through her 14 grandchildren: Lee Burns, Robert Burns, Thomas Burns( Rebecca) the late Roger Dukes, Timothy Leary (Mya) Thomas Leary, the late Dorothy Vadney, John, Vadney, Samantha Leary, Ricky Henderson, Devin Henderson, Jordan Wilcox (Breanna) Joey Wilcox (Kira) and Jaelyn Wilcox; her eleven great-grandchildren; and her two great-great-grandchildren—each of whom she adored.
While Fran never sought professional accolades, her greatest achievement was the unwavering love, guidance, and support she gave to her family. She was present for every milestone—from school concerts to the births of her grandchildren—ensuring her loved ones always felt cherished. She was an incredible wife and an even more extraordinary mother.
Her generosity and warmth extended beyond her own family. A dedicated Sunday school teacher and active church member, Fran found joy in sharing her faith and kindness with others. She valued love over material wealth, believing that true richness came from family, friends, and the lives she touched.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Community Hospice for ensuring Fran’s final days were peaceful and for their unwavering support. A special thank you to Tracy D., Alice, Chaplin Brian, and Joanne—your kindness and love were a true blessing, and we are forever grateful.
Fran’s life was a testament to love, sacrifice, and the profound impact of a mother’s heart. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
