Elizabeth Ann Waite Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Waite, age 86, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Gateway House of Peace, lovingly surrounded by her family and friends. Betty’s passing marked the close of a beautiful life defined by family traditions, her love of art, her creative talent, travels with family to and from Ohio, living among family in Saratoga Springs, NY. and a devotion to those she loved.

Born on May 23, 1939, in Lakewood, Ohio, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Frank

E. Gaut DDS and Florence; and wife to the late Theodore Joseph Waite, Jr to whom she was married for 55 years. After one year at Miami University, she utilized her artistic talent when she worked for a magazine sketching dresses and other fashions. While attending The Cleveland Institute of Art, her talents evolved into oil painting, particularly of horses. She took great pride in her portrait of their horse,” In Fijar” who in 1980 won the prestigious French 2000 Guineas - considered the French equivalent of the Preakness. Betty also enjoyed her later years working at the Saratoga Springs History Museum.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts: her sons; Theodore J. Waite III (Kate Gurley) and daughter-in-law, Barbara Waite and grandchildren Aidan, Dillon and Fiona; Frank E. Waite (Eileen) and grandchildren Madison, Timothy, Patrick, and Mitchell; James R. Waite (Holly) and grandchildren Zachary, Rachael, and Paige. Family and friends will miss her lively spirit, her funny stories and her presence at family gatherings.

Honoring her wishes, we invite those who knew and loved Betty to remember her in their own special way; through a quiet moment, a favorite story or memory, a piece of art, or time spent with horses or loved ones.

Donations can be made in her honor to Gateway House of Peace, Ballston Spa, NY.
