Edward Woodford Obituary

Edward J. Woodford, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025 surrounded by his wife and daughter. Born on June 30, 1954 in Boston, MA he was the son to the late William P. and Anna Woodford.

Ed devoted his career to healthcare, as both a researcher and Surgical Physician Assistant in the Cardiothoracic field; he found great purpose in the work that he did and developed meaningful friendships over the years at the many healthcare facilities in which he worked. The ideals of humanity, integrity, and education were integral to his moral code, which stemmed from the career that he valued so much. Ed was always very generous with his time and knowledge to students who crossed his path, and he devoted much of his free time to furthering the PA profession, serving as a Co-Chair of the Legislative Affairs at the Delaware Academy of Physician Assistants (DAPA).

Following his retirement, Ed moved with his wife Lee to Saratoga Springs, NY to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Becoming a Papa was Ed’s greatest pride and joy, and he would spend every day he could with the “squids”.  In his free time Ed enjoyed reading about history, listening to music, and cooking. His family and friends often benefited from his talents in the kitchen, as he loved to host dinners and holidays at his home; it is memories spent with Ed around the table with delicious food and wine, and lively conversation that his loved ones will remember most.

Ed is survived by his devoted wife Lee, daughter Katherine (Steve), grandchildren Miles and Charlotte, brother Bill, nephew Billy and nieces Renee, Kim, and Jeanine. He is predeceased by his beloved sister-in-law Jean.

The family would like to acknowledge Ed’s dear friend Scott Richards for his unwavering support and dedication to them throughout Ed’s illness and life, Scott’s devotion to the family was unmatched and invaluable in their darkest hours, and it meant a great deal to all of them.

At the family’s request no calling hours or services to be held at this time.
