Edward Smith Obituary

Edward C. Smith, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Greenfield Center, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.

Edward was born on December 27, 1933, in Fillmore, New York, the son of the late Glenn W. Smith and Bessie M. (Scholes) Smith. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, kindness, and humility—qualities that remained hallmarks of his life.

Ed started in construction, then went on to tractor repair at Kaiser-Wilcox in Bergen.  He finished as a salesman with Cummings-Bricker, serving the Batavia, New York area. He was well respected for his reliability, strong work ethic, and genuine approach to people, forming lasting relationships with colleagues and customers alike.  In retirement, Ed worked in their blueberry – Christmas tree fields at Ed’s Acres.

Edward was a gifted craftsman who found great joy in woodworking, carving, and building. His hands were rarely still, and his workshop was a place of creativity and purpose. Known as a true handyman, Edward was always willing to lend his time, skills, and patience to anyone in need, never asking for anything in return. His quiet generosity and practical wisdom left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Over the years, Edward offered his time and talents at area churches, serving faithfully.

Above all else, Edward cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Janeanne Radley Smith, with whom he shared many devoted years; his sons, Albert Smith and Andrew Smith (Amanda); and his daughters, Eleanor Van Valkenburg and Eileen Milroy (Daniel). He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. Edward is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will fondly remember his gentle nature, humble spirit, and steadfast presence.

In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his sisters, Alice and Lillian, and his brother, Richard; his son in law Carl.
