Edward William Roy, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 13, 1940, in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late William Roy and Agnes Durant Roy. Edward dedicated much of his life to serving others and advancing his skills in various fields.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1964, specializing in Aviation Electronics. During his military career, Edward attended Aviation Electronic Technician School in Memphis, TN, and trained at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME. He was an integral member of flight crew LE9, deployed to Keflavík, Iceland, and flight crew LE6, deployed to UNITAS II in South America. He also played a vital role during the Cuban Missile Crisis, participating in full engagement operations.
After his service, Edward pursued a career as an Electronics Technician with Lake Electronics in Colonie, NY. Ever committed to learning, he attended paramedic school in 1979. As a paramedic, Edward served the Colonie Fire Company and Colonie EMS with dedication from 1979 to 2009, contributing over 30 years to saving lives and supporting his community. He also became a Legal Videographer in 2003.
Edward is survived by his fiancée, Cynthia Rinehimer; his sons, Richard Roy his fiancée, Pauline Santiago and Thomas Roy; his daughter, Deborah Bird; his cherished grandchild, Danielle Bird (Tyler Levans); and his dear friend of many years, Cathy Martin. He will also be deeply missed by the mother of his children Irene Cloutier and countless friends whose lives he touched over the years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Roy.
Edward was passionate about sailing and enjoyed many adventures with family and friends on his sailboat (Sweet Danielle) over the years. He was an established aviator flying small planes, helicopters and drones. He was a flight medic for the NYS Police.
With Edward’s many talents, he was looked up to by his peers.
A graveside service to honor Edward's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, located at 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
Edward’s dedication to his family, community, and country will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
