Edward M. Noonan, 78, of Saratoga Springs, NY, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at home with his loved ones by his side.
He was born on May 12, 1944, in Albany, NY, the son of the late Edward D. Noonan and Racheal Carcia.
Ed was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, class of 1963. He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1965 and then earned his bachelor's degree from Empire State College.
Ed worked for NY State Higher Education for over 30 years, retiring as the Director of Finance in 1996. He was also an outdoor writer whose articles were in Bassmaster Magazine, Cabela’s website, NY Outdoor Times, among many other national and state publications. Ed was a member of the NYS Outdoor Writers Association and was the outdoor writer for The Daily Gazette for 34 years.
Being an avid outdoorsman all his life, Ed loved to share his passion of hunting and fishing and became a licensed NYS Fishing and Hunting guide. One of his greatest joys was being involved with Mike Ryan’s Make a Wish kids fishing tournament for over 20 years. Ed received numerous accolades for his involvement in these sports he loved. He had 10 Slams with the National Wild Turkey Federation, won the NYS Outdoor Writers Association Pass It On Award, and was inducted into the NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame in 2010.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ed will be deeply missed by all.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, the love of his life, Rosemary; his 2 cherished children, Sheila (Matt) Dunston and Sean Noonan; 2 adored grandchildren, Sam and Sydney Dunston; sister-in-law, Patricia (Gerard) McEneaney; niece, Laura (Brian) Gentile and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his parents-in-law, Harrison and Mary C Arnold; brother-in-law, Kevin Arnold; and nephew Kevin Arnold Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave, Saratoga Springs, New York. Calling hours will be held from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
