Donald Joseph Osborne, Sr. (91) passed away peacefully after a short illness at Saratoga Hospital on October 27, 2024. He was born September 22, 1933 in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Donald played football at Media High School, Media, PA and loved horseback riding and working on cars. He worked summers for Cornell Crane and Steel Company as a structural steel worker apprentice where he built bridges working at unusual heights. He was in the Merchant Marines for Sun Oil sailing ships several times down the east coast. He served four years in the Navy after graduation from high school, during the Korean War at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Donald worked as a signal operator for the B & O Railway while attending college. He graduated from Widener University (Pennsylvania Military College), Chester, PA with a BS in electrical engineering. He worked at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (Niskayuna) and the Kesselring Site (West Milton) for 28 years.
He loved sailing on Lake George, horseback riding, skiing, hunting, jogging and watching football or NASCAR. He enjoyed working on his farm and his tractors. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed hanging out with his friends at Jimmy’s Cafe in Burnt Hills over coffee.
He was a loving husband and devoted father and adoring grandfather. Donald is predeceased by his parents, Leslie Osborne (Cornwall, UK) and Charlotte (Hughes) Osborne (Chester, PA), brothers Robert and Leroy Osborne, and sister Joyce Osborne. He is survived by Theresa, his loving wife of 69 years, their children Donald Jr. (Lisa), Charlotte and Michael, and 2 grandchildren. His wisdom and calm will be missed by those who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Route 9/Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
A burial with military honors will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
