Donald Kenneth Bouton, age 91, of Gansevoort, peacefully passed away at his home on July 2, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born on August 2, 1932, Donald was the beloved son of James and Fanny Bouton. He graduated from Roxbury High School in 1950 and subsequently served two years in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
Donald began his career with GLF, later known as Agway, where he worked for 10 years before becoming the proud owner and operator of Washburn Farm (Winding Brook Farm) in Gansevoort until his retirement in 1986. Don and Claire established The Garden Patch, where they grew their own vegetables, and Don took pleasure in chatting with customers.
Throughout his life, he contributed actively to his community, serving on the Cooperative Extension Services of Saratoga County, as well as dedicating 20 years to the South Glens Falls School Board and many years to the Moreau Planning Board and BOCES Board.
Don cherished attending his grandchildren's sporting events and the visits from his great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, son Dennis, and granddaughter Courtney Bouton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Claire (Washburn) Bouton, and their three daughters: Beth (Jack) Celeste, Kathy (Eric) Semmel, and Amy Ward and daughter-in-law Melinda Bouton. He was a cherished grandfather to Brittany (Elton) Smith, Lindsey (Ricky) Fredette, Kelsey Celeste and Mallory (Jake) Normandin, Hallie Semmel, Sierra Semmel, Ryan (Carli), Jillian Ward, and Emily Ward, and a doting great-grandfather to Quinn and Austin Fredette, Tinsley Ward, Oscar Normandin, and Hazel Smith. Four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 5 – 7 pm at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte. 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, New York. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
A graveside burial will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10:00 am at Gansevoort Cemetery, 4960 NY-50, Gansevoort, NY 12831.
