Bruce Walter King, age 85, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 with his loving family by his side.
Bruce was born on December 15, 1935, to Adolphus and Gertrude King of Richmond Hill in Queens, NY. An early graduate of the State University of New York’s College for Teachers at Albany, Bruce began teaching mathematics to high school students at the age of 20. A teacher and student, he went on to earn two Master’s degrees and his Doctorate. He married Mary T. Traudt in1962. They adopted two children, a daughter, Kristen, and a son, David. Bruce accepted a teaching position at what was to become WCSU, Western Connecticut State University, he taught mathematics there for over 30 years. Dr. King was elected chairman of both the mathematics and computer science departments before retiring. During retirement, he found a new passion in genealogy and was able to trace back 10 generations of Kings. In 2014, Bruce lost Mary, his wife of 52 years to pancreatic cancer. He reunited and married his high school sweetheart, Adrienne Penno King, in 2015.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Adrienne Penno King; his children, Kristen Perrine and David (& Margie) King; his grandchildren, Sebastion Pitt-King, Tristan King, Brianna King and Arin King. Uncle B is also survived by his sisters, Patricia King and Alice King, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held on October 2, 2021 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY. Calling hours will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a service at 12:30 pm.
Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, NY. A luncheon will be held after the burial. A second service will be held at the Knotty Oak Cemetery in Coventry, RI in the Spring of 2022.
