Barbara Krupit, age 90, passed away January 31, 2021. She was born on February 2, 1930 in NYC to Ida (Gleischenhaus) and Joseph Baris. Barbara graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and continued her education at City College where she graduated cum laude with a BA in Foreign Trade and continued on to earn an MS in Education from Hofstra University.
Bobbie worked as an elementary teacher before becoming a very popular public speaker leading discussions about great books, literature and current issues at numerous libraries and public and private events across Long Island for over 30 years. She retired in 2013 to move to Saratoga Springs after living in Woodbury NY for 52 years. Barbara earned the Woman’s History award in 2000 from the League of Women Voters of Nassau County for her work as a Leader of Current Events and Book Discussion.
In her free time she greatly enjoyed international travel, theatre, the stock market, reading, politics, tennis, bridge and visiting her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include her daughters Tracy (Dan) Battles of Saratoga Springs, NY and Alison Krupit of Redding, California, three grandsons, Troy (Emily) Kursten, Andreas (Cat) Kursten and Casey (Tiffany) Battles and two step grandchildren, Haven Battles and Benjamin (Krista) Battles and many great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bert Krupit (1989) her caring companion Hans Booge (2019) and her older brother Jordan Baris (2020).
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the caring staff at the Home of the Good Shepard in Wilton for their loving care.
A small zoom memorial service was held February 6 for the immediate family including Barbara’s loving nieces and nephews as well as her longtime friend and daughter.
