Barbara R. (Ferris) Babson, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 20, 2023, at Genesis Nursing Home in Westfield, MA. She had been a 50-year resident of Clifton Park, NY.
She was born in Union, NJ on December 9, 1930 to the late Ernest and Josephine (Eisenman) Ferris. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Paul Babson (April 2010) and her twin sons Jeffrey (1992) and Jonathan (2019). Barb was also predeceased by her brothers Norman and Albert “Bub” Ferris, her sisters Elizabeth “Betty” Gibbons and Marion Schafer, and her granddaughter, Barbara L. Babson.
She grew up in Cohoes, NY and graduated from Cohoes High. She had spent the last 4 years in the Springfield, MA area with her daughter. Barb was the youngest of five children and the loving mother of five of her own. She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging and was a member of the Clifton Park Garden Club for many years. In her leisure time, she loved to knit and read. She and her husband were avid boaters and spent summers cruising on Lake George with their many friends. After their cruising years, she and Paul enjoyed “the Camp”. She was an accomplished artist of 70 years with her favorite subject of later years being the lake. Barb enjoyed traveling and vacationed abroad every other year with her 2 sisters. She also traveled extensively with her husband and spent the better part of winters in Florida and the Caribbean or Mexico.
She is survived by her sons David Babson and his wife Kim, Richard Babson and his wife Pam, and her daughter Linda Brownlee and her husband Bob, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, five great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was always a lady and will be remembered for her classy style, her kind, quiet, sweet demeanor, her lively parties and wonderful family gatherings. She was much loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, New York. At the family’s request the graveside service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering or the charity of your choice.
