Ann Constance Hilger

Ann Constance Hilger (née Hunt) passed away on September 18, 2023, at Wesley Health Care Center. 

Ann was born to George and Constance Hunt on February 9, 1933, in Birmingham, England. England was fighting in World War II for most of her childhood, so she had stories of spending nights in air raid shelters and eating rationed food.  She was evacuated to Wales as a schoolgirl, and the beauty of Wales and kindness of the people became one of her favorite memories. Ann had a love of adventure, so in 1955, she traveled to New York to work as a companion to Miss Frick.  She met Walter Hilger, her soul mate and partner in adventure, soon after arriving in the States, and they were married July 14, 1956.  They both loved the outdoors and travel, spending their vacations and retirement exploring the 48 contiguous states and Canada, with one of their Labrador retrievers in tow.

Ann worked for many years in the Child Development Center at Skidmore College, a job she loved.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Alison Hilger Crocker (Christopher) and son, Eric Walter Hilger (Su Luke), step-grandson, Christopher Crocker, granddaughter, Ani Crocker, and beloved nephews, Peter Lucas and Matthew, Nicholas and Thomas Rees.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her sister Priscilla and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at St. Luke’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, 40 McBride Road, Mechanicville NY.

A private interment will be held in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
