Amos J. Ernst, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4th, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his family.
Amos was born on July 26th, 1929 in Wilton, NY, son of the late F. William Ernst and Lena Ebert Ernst. With humble beginnings, Amos was the seventh son out of thirteen children total. Being the seventh son in the family was very significant to Amos as his late father William, was also the seventh son of his generation. One thing to note is Amos loved his first name, it means to be revenant, which he believed.
A man of many talents, Amos was primarily known for his work as an electrical contractor. He began his roots as a tradesman at the ripe age of sixteen. Being an electrician kind of fell into Amos’ lap, yet he made the most of it all. With a desire to be a book of knowledge, he sought out learning all there was to know about the trade; and then some. Once a bustling business owner, he maintained strong ties with his community. Understanding the importance of philanthropy, he knew his mission was to help, especially those around him. Over the years he donated his services and gratuity to his quaint city, leaving his mark. He truly made anyone who crossed his path feel loved and special with his warmth and glowing smile. His enormous heart brought about many thrills and adventures that he rightfully deserved. Through his many adventures, he found the love of his life, Patricia. They were inseparable, a spark that remained ignited for well over forty years.
Amos had several passions in his free time, hardly ever was he sitting still. First and foremost, Amos could be pinpointed by his sharply dressed attire! Fashionable socks and a sophisticated sweater vest were always sported by this gentleman. Amos had the greenest thumb there ever was, nurturing plants and exquisite flowers. As a self-taught musician, Amos loved performing on his accordion and organ when the mood called for it. Being handy with tools, naturally his projects with woodwork and problem solving were a remarkable feat. A true man of strategy, he enjoyed the harness track, methodically studying the horses trying to calculate the big winner. Going golfing with his best buddies was the right amount of competition he needed. Playing card games with cherished friends and family was a Saturday night routine at the Ernst house. Entertaining guests was second nature, he did enjoy a good party! In his down time watching the Mets play baseball definitely kept his attention. So did Friday night wrestling with his wife as they cheered for their favorites. Many things brought great joy to his life, and he truly enjoyed the life he built for himself.
Amos is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Ernst of 38 loving years; children, John A. Ernst (Mary), Gary Lenz (Theresa), Stacy Vrooman, Cindy Ernst; grandchildren, Gary Lenz III, Dakota Lenz (Ciara), Kaylie Thornhill (Brian), Brie Lawrence (Zach); siblings, Larry Ernst, Betty Clevland, Rena Dyke; sister-in-law, Barbara Mattrazzo; adored great grandchildren; treasured nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends who will miss his humble spirit.
