Alice Joan Bull Rickett Feulner of Greenfield Center, NY, age 95, died at home surrounded by family on July 25, 2023.
Alice was born in Glens Falls Hospital on May 12th, 1928. Her mother died when she was four, and she was placed in foster care where she lived in a number of foster homes before reaching maturity. She attended Bolton Landing and Ballston Spa high schools. She also attended classes at Fulton Montgomery Community College.
Besides being a housewife and mother to six children, she also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Debra Kaplan in Potsdam. For many years she worked in Montgomery, Otsego, and Saratoga counties in their department of Social Services as a welfare examiner.
She was proud of her Native American heritage being a direct descendant of Sabael, an Abenaki Indian who lived in the heart of the Adirondacks where four area names where derived from him: Sabael, Abenaki Lake, Lake Lewey and Indian Lake. Alice was proud of the fact that her grandmother’s cradle board is in the New York State Museum in Albany.
Her passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed making sock angel dolls with button legs and intricately hand sewn clothing. Each doll had an original set of wings that ranged from a piece of birch bark to a colorful ribbon. During her lifetime she made well over 500 of these dolls which she sold or gave as gifts to friends. She documented each in a journal.
During the ‘80’s she owned and operated a thrift store called Glad Rags in downtown Canajoharie, NY.
She had a unique ability to make friends and once you became her friend, she made you feel special by always remembering you with hand written notes and cards. Hallmark will forever be indebted to her for the success of their company.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Lucinda Christina Johnson and Charles Ellsworth Bull of Lake George, NY, her son Paul J. Rickett III and her grandsons Jamison M. Rickett and JP Woods.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ronald W. Feulner. Her children Candace Feulner (Gene), Jeffrey Rickett (Sonya), Kelly Woods (John), David Feulner (Lori), Michael Feulner (Patricia) and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services for Alice will be held in the fall in Bolton Landing NY. A brief graveside service will also be held in the fall at Hutchings Cemetery in Greenfield Center.
