Adam Gary Obituary

Adam Joseph Gary, age 61, passed away at home on January 17, 2025, after a sudden cardiac event.  He was born on October 1, 1963, in Saratoga Springs, New York, to the late George B. Gary and Helene M. (Gerwin) Gary.  He is also predeceased by his grandparents George D. Gary and Charlotte (Chippendale) Gary, Walter M. Gerwin and Helen (Bessmer) Gerwin and niece Helen Watson.

Adam is survived by his beloved son, Adam George Gary, his longtime best friend, Kathryn Fitzgerald; his siblings, Lisa Gary, Bernard Gary, Andrew Gary, Arthur Gary and Monica Watson (Kevin).  He also leaves behind his cherished niece and nephews Marie Watson Plefka (Eddie), Sean Watson and Eric Watson as well as great-nephews Kevin Plefka, Deacon Plefka and Malcolm Plefka along with numerous cousins from the Kline, Phillips, Gerwin, Seymour and Conmee families.

Adam grew up on Crommelin Drive in Saratoga Springs racing motorcycles with his brothers.  Being one of six children meant there was never a dull moment in their home.  Sunday meals always included Gram and Pa Gerwin from Troy who eventually moved into Crommelin Drive to become a multigenerational family.

Adam served in the US Army at Fort Bliss, TX.  Most recently, Adam worked for the Saratoga Springs Department of Public Works.  He retired from the DPW in 2022.  He was a long time and avid Buffalo Bills fanatic and enjoyed every occasion to root them on (Go Bills!).  He was a music lover and could be relied on to know what was playing on the jukebox, and what should be playing instead. A Rolling Stones fan, he saw many shows up and down the coast from Montreal to Miami.  He enjoyed visits to NYC’s Greenwich Village, especially live music at The Bitter End. The Big Lebowski was his favorite movie, and he would often include those lines in regular conversation. “Phone’s ringin’, Dude.”   Adam had many friends and always enjoyed sharing a laugh or a debate, often both at once. Adam was intelligent, warm, and funny; we treasured his sharp wit and sense of humor.

Adam, Kathryn and their son Adam were a tight family unit with unending love for each other.  Adam and Kathryn co-parented with grace and respect.  Their bond through their son created a love and friendship that was unwavering to the end.  Adam loved bragging with pride of the successes of his son, the light of his life.

Adam's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.  May his legacy bring comfort to all who mourn his loss.
